I'm Dr. Carolyn Peterson, a licensed psychologist who is multiracial, bilingual in Thai and English, and the proud daughter of a Veteran.
My experience of growing up abroad and coming to the United States as an adult allows me to bring a unique perspective to therapy. I am deeply committed to exploring the intersectionality of identities. I strive to create a space that honors and embraces the complexity of our individual background, identities, and experiences. I understand that societal context plays a significant role in shaping our perspectives and challenges we face.
You will frequently catch me experimenting with new recipes, watching football, hitting the trails with my furry friend, and giving rock climbing my best shot.
Approach to Therapy
As a psychologist, I offer evidence-based therapies like:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Processing Therapy / Prolonged Exposure
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Dialectic Behavioral Therapy
Additionally, I integrate mindfulness and compassion-focused approaches into my practice. These methodologies delve into underlying thoughts and emotions, assist in challenging and accepting difficult experiences, and fostering skill building. When faced with challenges or feeling stagnant we will explore strategies to facilitate meaningful behavioral changes.
Together, with kindness and curiosity, we explore the fear of being vulnerable and embrace the power that comes with being honest and trusting of ourselves. We will develop coping strategies, resilience, and empowerment through open dialogue. My hope for you is to discover purpose and fulfillment through active engagement in your life, alignment with your values, and greater freedom achieved by shedding the burden of self-criticism.
